ART 8 students spent a few days creating some pieces of art using masking tape to block off what would become the negative, empty space. Each group was allowed to create whatever they wanted and paint however they wanted for their group piece. Upon completion, students were given a letter, roll of tape and varying pieces of paper. Students had to tape off the letter they were given and then paint it abstractly in whatever style they liked. These letters will then be placed together to form art words, such as, create and inspire. These colorful pieces will brighten up and let the creativity flow in our tiny hallway :)

ART 8 is diving into the Cubist world of Pablo Picasso for the next couple weeks! As an end project, students will complete a self portrait painting in Picasso's signature portrait style. To begin, we has a discussion about Cubism as students debated images on a Powerpoint presentation. I got alot of "What is that?!" "That is supposed to be a flattering portrait?!!" and " I don't get it!" but in the end, they could see and appreciate the change in art, the concept and had fun playing Roll-A-Picasso. Next we moved on to coloring portraits of each other. Students did their best to make their "worst" portraits of classmates! Each student turned in 2, will chose their favorite for the class to vote on and the top 3 Picasso apprentices will receive a yummy prize! Take a look at our final project below! Day one: Powerpoint intro and roll-a-picassoBelow is my PPT for introducing Cubism. I tend to make my PPTs very vague with little info actually typed out. I want my students to debate the art, come to their own conclusions, and use the information about the history of the art world to appreciate the various movements. I guide discussion but it is a very informal approach with much debate and opinion.
Day two: partner portraits!Students created portraits of classmates, and even me using Picasso's signature style. We had a ton of fun making our "best" portraits of our friends. Monday we will vote for our top 3. As you can see we had a ton of fun with this! day three: picking our top 3 & selfie sketches!and the winners are...1st: Jolee 2nd: Michael 3rd: Sydeny and Rylie Click on the images to see the full picture. day four through .....: final selfie sketches and paint! |
