ART 8 students spent a few days creating some pieces of art using masking tape to block off what would become the negative, empty space. Each group was allowed to create whatever they wanted and paint however they wanted for their group piece. Upon completion, students were given a letter, roll of tape and varying pieces of paper. Students had to tape off the letter they were given and then paint it abstractly in whatever style they liked. These letters will then be placed together to form art words, such as, create and inspire. These colorful pieces will brighten up and let the creativity flow in our tiny hallway :)

Our first project of the quarter comes from the wonderful blog of a NYC artist, Julie Fei Fan Balzer. In an old post from March of 2011 she had a guest artist blogger who creates mixed media art journal pages from the Netherlands, Sandra van der Geest. I took van de Geest's art journal pages as inspiration for our own mixed media art and writing project. You can use the link below to explore her blog post on Balzer Designs Blog. day one: pondering quotesToday was about finding a quote that we could relate to personally. Students will be required to not only visually represent their quote, but also reflect and write on what it means to them so they had to choose carefully. The iPads from the JCF were a great help. day two, three and four: piecing it together and glue!Today we looked for words and letters to recreate our quotes. We also reinforced our quote pages by gluing them to another page. This will make our paper strong enough to hold the paint, paper and any other media we decide to use, ensuring that our work looks its best. days five and six: |
